Who You Are Is Enough

These are simple words to hear, but the meaning is very regularly lost.  Most of us spend our entire lives trying to prove our worth to everyone around us.

When did we start to question if we were enough?  Who gets to decide this?

Many people walk through life trying to chase the elusive markers of success as defined by our culture.  As children we are taught the importance of good grades, being athletic, likeable, and morally good.  Then as we become adults, we can see it in the image of attaining a marriage, home, car, job, and salary.

For those of us who don’t meet those markers or deviate from the prescribed path, we can be left with a feeling of not measuring up when fitting into the mold doesn’t line up with our destiny.  Judgment is the result for non-conformity and internalizing this judgment can create feelings of unworthiness and self-hatred.

Being different and going against the grain isn’t always easy.

The ironic truth is that we are all unique! Everyone is different in some capacity and it’s important to embrace our differences. In order to find freedom from the inner cages of unworthiness, we must make the transition from extrinsic worth to intrinsic acceptance.  A few things that may help you make the shift are:

1. Understand and accept that you don’t think you’re enough because you are using external things to define your worth.

2. Ask yourself, “How do I feel about the thought that my worth depends on what I have or what I attain?”

3. You will begin to feel some sensations. Just allow them to be there. These emotions are the emotions that have been supporting your search for your worth outside of yourself. Again, just let them be there; allow yourself to just feel them.

4. Repeat step 2 and 3 until you feel nothing.

When I went through this process, my sense of self enlarged and I began to know who I was for the first time in decades.  I let go of the shoulds and began forging my own path, stepping confidently in the direction that I knew was only mine to follow.

If you’ve been on the course towards knowing you are enough, I urge you to press on.  Dig deep for the courage to believe that your own unique expression is unlike any other and is so desperately needed to add to the vibrant experience we share on this planet we call earth.

You are worthy. You are more than enough.

“Once you know who you really are, being you is enough.  You feel neither superior to anyone nor inferior to anyone and you have no need for approval because you’ve awakened to your own infinite worth.”  - Deepak Chopra
